This month’s theme fits really well with February and that is – Valentines.
We invited Jenn Mishra to grade the submitted images.
It is Jenn’s first time performing judging duties. Jenn is a travel and landscape photographer and freelance writer based in St. Louis. Her photos have been featured in several solo exhibitions including a black and white photography exhibit and has written extensively for photography education publications such as Photzy, PetaPixel and Expert Photography.
She is an orchestral musician and music educator by profession. She has found that the artistic thinking and the technical approach to music transfers to the medium of photography.
Jenn loves to travel, but even when she’s at home in St. Louis, she tries to keep the same sense of adventure – looking for novelty in the everyday; finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Jenn shares some of her work via her social media.
This year, the group has adopted to rank the selected images from 1st to 5th with each rank obtaining between 25 and 5 points that will score for Order of Merit.
Well done to everyone thise that took part and congratulations to those who were selected and can be seen in February’s edition of the Algarve Plus Magazine.
The next theme for Algarve Plus for March will be: Markets (in and around the Algarve)

Words of Wisdom
1st Place: 02 Love 2025 by Glyn Parry
This nice, clean, striking still life of the letters “Love” slanting pleasantly into the frame. A clean background with a pool of light heightens interest for the viewer and helps the letters “Pop”.
2nd Place: 05 Still Hand in Hand by Ina Tanzer
A wonderfully edited image that resembles a pencil sketch and adds to the storytelling, nostalgic and dreamlike element of the image.
3rd Place: 08 Valentines Day by Timurhan Tastutar
This is a creative image that is a challenge to achieve. It has wonderful colours, as the image was like to have been taken during or close to the “golden hour.”
4th Place: 03 Love On The Calcadas by Kevin Saunders
Another “creative” image that is simple yet powerful for this theme. The hand-drawn heart on the smooth textured stone against the solid, rough cobbles indicates warmth and love, appropriate for the theme.
5th Place: 04 Hearts & Petals by Daryl Gabin
I like the colours in this image: Red, warmth, and hearts are all synonyms with valentines. The Seets are carefully presented on the plate, and they are all begging for someone to eat them.
